A man in Louisa County is going to prison for five years for molesting a child in an elementary school bathroom.
The sex crime happened in March 2012, during school hours, at Jouett Elementary.
Police used the school's surveillance footage to arrest Leslie Rayford Johnson. The footage showed Johnson standing in front of the office, looking in the window. Then, a child came out of the office and went into a bathroom. Johnson followed the boy into the bathroom and they were alone together for several minutes.
Eventually, a custodian entered the restroom and Johnson rushed out.
Later that night, the boy told his parents he had been molested at school.
Since the incident, Jouett Elementary has made several security upgrades. They now have a table set up in the lobby, where a secretary can keep an eye on visitors. They also put up signs on all the bathrooms in the school, designating them for either student or adult use.
"We definitely don't want to have adults and students behind closed doors," said Jouett Principal Mike Pelloni. "We tried to make student only areas and adult only areas, because once somebody steps behind a closed door, you can't really monitor what's happening."
Police say Johnson had no criminal history. Now, he will be a registered sex offender.
