Madison County Public Schools will be closed Monday, Oct. 21, after officials received a "communication" Sunday afternoon that prompted the system to initiate safety protocol.

Madison superintendent Matt Eberhardt said in an email to the Newsplex Sunday evening that law enforcement met with school officials advising they close schools on Monday.

However, Eberhardt said there was no direct threat and described the actions as "precautionary."

He said schools will be canvassed Monday, but he did not offer further details about what prompted the closure.
