James Kevin Key will spend his birthday at home with his family. The 47-year-old accused of abducting a child at Fashion Square was released on $25,000 bail. Under terms of his release from the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail, Key must live with his father in Palmyra and remain under constant supervision of a family member.
Defense attorney Bonnie Leopold told the judge during a bond review Wednesday that Key suffers from complex partial seizures. She provided documentation from doctors treating Key that a recent lowering of his medication dosage has resulted in an increase of seizures. Family members of Key say he was suffering from one of his seizures when he picked up a two year old child and starting walking in the opposite direction of the child's parents.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 7.
