A man charged in the fatal shooting of a 10-year-old boy appeared in an Orange County court on Monday morning.

The judge denied bond and set a new court date for Billy Joe Lee.

Lee maintains that the April 6th shooting was an accident and that he loved the child, George Allen "Bubbie" Toombs, like a son.

Lee is facing charges of felony child abuse and neglect, shooting in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm within the home with the death of an individual, and child endangerment.

The victim's mother, Tina Toombs, is Lee's fiancée. She is facing felony child abuse and neglect charges and has been released on $5,000 bond.
