Man Enters Guilty Plea for Albemarle Co. Robberies

Feb. 18, 2014

A man facing dozens of burglary charges across Central Virginia appeared in Albemarle County Circuit Court Tuesday morning, where he pleaded guilty to several of those charges.

Kevin Burchardt entered a plea deal today. He pleaded guilty to one count robbery, four counts breaking and entering and one count of selling stolen property.

The charges stem from a series of burglaries stretching from November to December of 2012.

Burchardt targeted homes in 19 jurisdictions across the Commonwealth, stealing jewelry, silverware, electronics and firearms.

In some cases he vandalized the homes and cut phone lines. Burchardt also stole an ATV, which he then traded for a Jeep that was used in the robberies.

Because Burchardt is facing multiple charges in multiple localities there is a possibility he sentences will be run concurrently.

With the Albemarle County charges alone he faces a maximum of five life sentences, plus ten years behind bars.

In October, Burchardt plead guilty to sixteen charges related to the robberies in Fluvanna Co. He will be sentenced there later this month.

The Commonwealth's attorney in Albemarle Co. is waiting on that decision before recommending Burchardt sentence here in April.
