RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A man who died after falling from a bridge in downtown Richmond has been identified.
City police spokesman Gene Lepley tells The Richmond Times-Dispatch that 18-year-old Virgil Reid McGarity of Henrico County apparently tried to jump between the Lee Bridge's northbound and southbound spans.
An open space of a few feet separates the two spans.
Lepley says McGarity was found on pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge is suspended several dozen feet from the bottom of the Lee Bridge.
McGarity was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The accident occurred late Saturday night.
