UPDATE: Sheriff's Office Identifies Body Found in Buckingham Co. Woods

The Buckingham County Sheriff's Office has identified the body found Tuesday in a wooded area in Wingina.

The Sheriff's Office says the body has been positively identified as 44-year-old Gary Lee Christian of the area.

The investigation is on-going, but authorities say new investigative leads indicate there were no signs of foul play.

Final autopsy results are pending from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond.

The Sheriff's Office asks anyone with any information about the case to contact them at 434-969-1772.

A body has been discovered in Buckingham County, according to the Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, February 11, at 11:06 a.m. the Emergency Communication Center received a telephone call in reference to a deceased white male discovered in a wooded area off of Midland Road in the Wingina area of Buckingham Co.

Deputies with the Sheriff's Office responded and were lead into a remote section of woods by several hunters who found the body.

Upon evaluating the scene, investigators are calling this investigation suspicious in nature and the case remains open.

The deceased was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond, Virginia for an autopsy.
