An Albemarle County jury has found Mark Weiner guilty of the abduction of a Charlottesville woman. They recommended a 20-year sentence.

Last December, Weiner picked up a 20-year-old woman in front of the Lucky 7 convenience store in downtown Charlottesville. He had just finished up class at PVCC and claims he was going to buy some cigarettes when he picked the woman up.

Weiner then took the woman to an abandoned house where he intended to assault her. However the woman managed to escape.

During the trial, Weiner claimed that he had picked her up and dropped he off without any incident. The woman said she had been drugged and taken against he will to the abandoned house.

The jury came down with a verdict of guilty just before 5 p.m.on Friday, and an hour later recommended Weiner be sentenced to 20 years in jail. The maximum sentence for the charge of Abduction with Intent to Defile is life in prison.

Commonwealth's Attorney Denise Lunsford said, "I'm very happy with the verdict and pleased with all the work the jury put in. It was a long four days. The jury worked very hard, and he's yet to be sentenced and we'll see what the judge does in August."

Weiner is 53 years old and is from Greene County. He is married and has a 9-year-old son.

A judge will sentence Weiner in August.
