If you nick yourself or get a small cut, doctors say it could turn into a more serious condition.

Dr.Keri hall at Martha Jefferson Hospital says cellulitis is a skin infection caused by bacteria that live on the surface of your skin.

Anyone can get it and it typically impacts, the arms, feet and legs. The infected area is often red or pink, swollen and painful.

"All it takes is really just a nick or cut some sort of opening in the skin and then the bacteria can live there and spread," said Dr. Keri Hall, Infectious Disease Physician, Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Cellulitis can be treated with antibiotics, but Dr. Hall recommends early prevention like cleaning and covering your cuts.
