McCormick Road Bridge Closes Monday for Replacement

May 19, 2013

The McCormick Road Bridge over Emmet Street will close starting Monday so it can be torn down and replaced.

The aging bridge has a weight limit of eight tons, which prevents buses from the University of Virginia to travel over it.

The bridge is scheduled to reopen in late July.

Portions of Emmet Street will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday night so crews can demolish the existing bridge. Emmet Street will close again for two nights in June so crews can install the new bridge supports.
