The fifth-annual “Meet Yer Eats” farm tour kicks off Monday for Labor Day. This year, 19 local farms will host tours so people can check out where their food comes from.
One of the farms on the tour is Vintage Virginia Apples at Albemarle CiderWorks. They are located in north garden and specialize in unique apples. One of the owners spoke about the kinds of apples that are popular this season.
“The newer variety that's been very popular is razor russet,” says Charlotte Shelton. “We get a lot of demand for that, we just started picking them.”
Shelton also explained that they have a rare kind of apple called the Blue Pearmain.
“There are several others down there that will be of unusual variety,” says Shelton.
Some of the other farms along the tour are Wood Creek, Forest Green and Brightwood Vineyard.
