The two hot topics at today's meeting between the Albemarle County School Board and state legislators were SOL testing and the budget.
The focus of the meeting was to talk about the vision of education along with the goals of education in Virginia with local members of the General Assembly
The county says it would like to have more flexibility in the way students are tested. They want tests that challenge student with more critical thinking.
Delegate David Toscano, House District 57, said, "We heard very clearly that they'd like some more flexibility in how they run their programming so they can get to a higher level and get the excellence for their school division."
Steve Koleszar, Chairman for the Albemarle School Board, said, "We've met all of the bench marks for the SOL's so it's not the matter of trying to get around them. We met those standards but we want to have higher standards for our kids."
The concerns and needs of Albemarle County Schools will come up at the General Assembly's next session that begins the second week of January.
