Michie Running to Keep Seat on City School Board

May 3, 2013

A member of the Charlottesville School Board is running to keep his seat.

Ned Michie has spent nine years on the Board.

He says he still has things he would like to accomplish, such as converting Buford Middle School to a three-year school, instead of just seventh and eighth grade.

Michie says Charlottesville also needs to do more for its youngest students, by expanding preschool for three-year-olds.

"Having two quality years of preschool leading into kindergarten is really critical, because kids who haven't had quality preschool leading into kindergarten are already way behind. It's tough for them ever to catch up, and so the research does show that investing in preschool is well worth the money."

There are three seats up for grabs this November, and all three incumbents are running.

No challengers have come forward yet.
