An event at the University of Virginia taught students what sexual violence is and and what isn't allowed, and what happens after a sexual assault case is filed.

The third annual mock sexual assault trial took place Tuesday evening. UVa's Sexual Misconduct Board put on the event along with Take Back the Night as part of this week's Take Back the Night events.

The Sexual Misconduct Board has seen 22 actual hearings since 1998.

The board explained the process of a trial and UVa's policies and students had the chance to ask questions. About 200 students attended the event.

"It was really good seeing this huge crowd because it really educates everyone on what the policy is beyond just the proceedings," said Chris Zapple, an organizer with Take Back the Night and a third year student at UVa. "It's nice making it clear about what this board does and what the policies actually are to clear up any questions."

Take Back the Night events continue Wednesday evening with a poetry slam, where survivors and friends share stories.

Events culminate with a rally, march and vigil Thursday evening.
