Monticello Receives $10M Donation for Restoration Efforts

April 20, 2013

Thomas Jefferson's Monticello is on the receiving end of a major donation amounting to $10 million.

The donation comes from philanthropist David M. Rubenstein, the co-CEO of The Carlyle Group. It was inspired by a recent trip Rubenstein took to the third president's home.

The donation will help restore the upper floors of the house. It will also help reconstruct Mulberry Row, Monticello's main plantation hub, and will fund the upgrade of electrical and climate-control systems.
