WAYNESBORO, Va. (AP) - Police say no charges will be filed against the owner of more than two dozen animals seized from a house in Waynesboro.
Waynesboro police Sgt. Brian Edwards tells media outlets that the 59-year-old woman apparently dug up dirt from her backyard and used it as litter throughout the house.
Edwards says home health care employees who were caring for the woman reported the conditions in the house. He says many had to wear protective masks just to go inside.
On Friday, animal control officers seized 25 cats, four dogs and a bird from the house.
The woman wasn't identified.
