A $10,000 grant is helping an Albemarle County food pantry offer new options to families in need.

Beginning Feb. 8, Buck Mountain Episcopal Church in Earlysville will be opening its doors twice a month to families that need help putting food on the table. The grant money provided by the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF) will mean more food options and extended operating hours for the pantry.

"The extra funding will allow us to give more protein and other foods. This year we are going to give seeds out to folks so they can grown their own food, which is really exciting," said Rev. Connie Clark.

Rev. Clark says the need for more options and longer hours at the pantry continues to rise. The pantry gives out a three-day emergency supply of nutritious food to anyone who needs it. The amount of food given varies with the size and composition of the family.
