Most Va. Voters Had Proper ID Ready at the Polls

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Preliminary figures indicate that most Virginians came to the polls on Election Day prepared to comply with the state's new voter identification law.

State Board of Elections figures show less than 5 percent of the 11,581 provisional ballots recorded as of Thursday were cast because the voter didn't have the proper ID.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/UOa0fM) says numbers are still pending from Falls Church and Dinwiddie, Southampton, Sussex and Westmoreland counties.

The law requires voters without proper ID at the polls to cast a provisional ballot. Acceptable forms of identification range from drivers' licenses and voter registration cards to current residential utility or water bills.
