Peyton Manning, the star quarterback of the Denver Broncos, will be the featured speaker at UVa.'s Valedictory Exercises in May.
Students made the announcement during halftime of the UVa-Ball State football game on Saturday.
"I was so excited. I was crying tears of happiness," said Carlin Tettelbach, a member of the Graduation Committee. "He was our No. 1 and the only letter we sent out was to him, and he accepted."
The four-time NFL most valuable player will speak at the Valedictory Exercises, the ceremony where the Class of 2014 celebrates its time at the university.
"We think that he'll be perfect because he'll just help us celebrate our time and just be really excited about what's coming after graduation," said Sarah Salinas, the chair of the Graduation Committee.
Manning does have a personal connection to UVa. His wife, Ashley, is a 1997 graduate of the McIntire School of Commerce.
Valedictory Exercises are held on the day before Final Exercises. It's scheduled on the UVa. Lawn for May 17.
