Thursday is National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) and people all around the U.S. are learning their status.
In Charlottesville, the AIDS Services Group (ASG) is holding free HIV screenings at the Jefferson School City Center from 10 am to 6 pm. Testing is confidential and results are available in 20 minutes.
The test is administered through either a blood or oral testing.
The NHTD motto is "Take the Test, Take Control."
"Obviously knowing your status is really important for yourself and those around us," says Jason Elliott, ASG Program Recruitment Specialist. "But today is a national coming together, especially in light of other events that have happened lately."
"It's really great to see that comradely in the community saying I'm going to make a responsible choice and I'm gonna know my HIV status," says Elliott.
They are also offering Hepatitis C testing and Elliott says that people with tattoos or anyone who has been in contact with needles might be at risk.
