STUDENTS WAIT FOR APARTMENTS ON MOVE IN DAY:
The Flats on West Main Street, new apartments for U.Va. students, were suppose to be completed by 5 PM on Friday. But city officials said the building is not up to standards for students to start moving in, leaving several residents waiting on the street until after 7 PM.
FATAL CAR ACCIDENT NEAR AFTON MOUNTAIN:
Albemarle County Police say, 75-year-old Wayne Thomas White from Waynesboro was killed in a crash Thursday night in Western Albemarle County. And 55-year-old Donovan Webster was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence.
TEACHERS RECEIVE SHANNON FOUNDATION GRANTS:
The Shannon Foundation awarded over $17,000 to 15 teachers from Albemarle and Charlottesville public schools. The robotics team at Western Albemarle High School got a $700 grant to fund an education robot the team built.
JUDGE REJECTS CASE DISMISSAL:
A judge has rejected a request to dismiss charges against former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen in their corruption trial. Their attorneys made the argument to dismiss the case in court Friday. The defense is set to begin presenting its case on Monday.
UVA TREE ACCIDENT UPDATE:
Five of the seven people injured at a farmers market on U.Va. Grounds after a tree limb fell on them are out of the hospital. Two people are still being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The University removed the entire tree Friday, as well as one next to it.
