Opening arguments were heard Tuesday in the corruption trial of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen. Maureen's attorney says the former first lady was lonely and developed a crush on Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams, saying she was duped.
Officers held a checkpoint Tuesday to find dangerous trucks and get them off the road. They spent the day inspecting tractor trailers that could pose a safety threat. Violation fines can be hefty. One truck paid more than $1,700 in fines.
AMERICANS IN DEBT:
Nearly 77 million Americans are overdue on a bill, other than their mortgage payment, by 180 days.

FORMER CONGRESSMAN DIES:
Former Virginia Attorney General Richard Cullen says 89-year-old Caldwell Butler died Tuesday. Butler was a five-term republican congressman from Virginia who voted for President Richard Nixon's impeachment.
VIRGINIA SALES TAX HOLIDAY:
Virginia's sales tax holiday for clothing, footwear, and school and office supplies begins Friday. Everything from pens and pencils to jeans and diapers will be tax-exempt. The link in the article below has more details on the tax holiday.
