A group that serves people in our community who can't afford legal resources welcomed in the new and recognized its old leadership.
The Legal Aid Justice Center officially recognized Mary Bauer as its new executive director. Bauer is replacing Alex Gulotta, who had been the group's director for 20 years.
People gathered at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center on Thursday night to pay tribute to Gulotta and welcome Bauer.
"I wanna build on Alex's successes,” said Bauer. “I think this organization has become one of the preeminent legal aid offices in the nation, and I think we'll continue to do really inspiring things and to really focus on getting at the root causes of poverty."
The Legal Aid Justice Center provides legal representation for low-income individuals in Virginia.
Bauer has served as the director of advocacy at the center since June.
