Poll Shows Va. Voters are for Keeping Concealed Gun Permits Private

March 28, 2013

A new poll released this morning by Quinnipiac University's Polling Institute, showed that Virginia voters still support the bill keeping concealed handgun permits private.

The poll shows that 60% of Va. voters were for keeping that information private.

Republican voters showed that 76% were for keeping that information private as well. More so than democratic voters, where only 40% were for keeping that information concealed.

One charlottesville gun owner believed that releasing that information would defeat the purpose of having a concealed weapon.

"There's a great deal of evidence that indicates that concealed carried handguns actually help to lower crime, but that's because it's concealed," says Edgar Lindamoode, co-owner of Acme Arms gun shop. "The bad guys don't know who are armed, so if you are releasing that information then the whole point of having a concealed firearm is thrown away."

Lindamoode also believed that releasing that information could shame the gun owners and put pressure on getting rid of their guns.
