The Albemarle County Police Department welcomed the newest K-9 team to it's agency on Monday.

Officer Lindsay Mahon and her K-9 partner, LuLu, will serve as a single purpose tracking team. LuLu is a 13 week old Bloodhound who was donated to the agency by M&M Kennels.

LuLu is the department's first bloodhound. The agency will no longer have to borrow other jurisdictions' tracking dogs.

"It's just basically a lot handier without having to inconvenience another department, especially if they are tied up on something. It'll help take some of the workload off of them for call outs," said Mahon.

Officer Mahon and LuLu have started training with the Virginia Bloodhound Search and Rescue Association. They are expected to be ready for patrol sometime next year.

Over the past year and a half the Albemarle County Police Department has worked to rebuild the K-9 program. Officer David Hopper and his K-9 partner, Bink, joined the agency in February.

The Charlottesville Albemarle Kennel Club, the Albemarle County Police Foundation, and M&M Kennels have helped to expand the K-9 program.

Charlottesville LE and Albemarle LE UVA LE it is ashamed that there isn't money in a budget that could get our officers K-9 teams. This should take priority. Crimes could be lowered by catching the bad guy, or finding a missing child or an elderly person that got lost before its to late. The problem with our town the priorities are not in order not LE, but wouldn't it of been nice instead of a plaque being put up, That money could of been given to a K-9 Unit maybe that would of contributed to finding Morgan earlier. People get your ducks in a row its not to late to prioritize the important issues. Cameras at lights I welcome this you to may if one of your loved ones was taken and just so happened to run a light and could possibly be caught before doing more harm. Think about it. How can u help the City County UVA LE? How can we help the school system in all these supposedly necessary changes? There is allot out there. HOW CAN YOU
