ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - More than 40 Norfolk Southern Corp. workers laid off in Roanoke have returned to work.
Norfolk Southern spokesman Robin Chapman tells media outlets that 30 workers were rehired in the railroad's communications and signal system. Another dozen were brought back to work in the locomotive shop.
They were among about 200 workers laid off last October in the Roanoke and Bluefield, W.Va., areas.
Chapman says 60 permanent and 70 temporary positions have opened up since then throughout Norfolk Southern's system.
