Only law enforcement officers can bring guns onto Old Dominion University's campus under a new regulation approved by the school's Board of Visitors.
Media outlets report that the board approved the regulation Thursday. It bans all guns, except those carried by law enforcement officers, from campus buildings and events.
The ban includes guns carried by holders of concealed weapons permits. It replaces an existing policy.
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued an opinion last July saying the policy didn't apply to holders of concealed weapons permits. Cuccinelli wrote that a regulation carries the force of law in Virginia.
A policy that went into effect Jan. 1 for state community colleges prohibits students, faculty and staff from carrying concealed guns on campus. That policy doesn't apply to visitors with concealed weapons permits.
