Oct. Sentencing for 1 Juvenile in Va. Riot, Escape

July 7, 2013

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. (AP) - A juvenile convicted of escaping during a riot at a detention center in Prince George County will be sentenced in October.

Alvin M. Rogers of Emporia pleaded guilty last month in Prince George County Circuit Court to aggravated malicious wounding, riot participation, escape and other charges. His sentencing is set for Oct. 3.

Commonwealth's Attorney Jay Paul tells The Progress-Index that two other juveniles facing similar charges will be tried as adults.

Paul says Jusef Collier is scheduled to be tried Sept. 5. A trial date hasn't been set for Raekwon D. Brown of Hopewell.

A fourth juvenile's status hasn't been decided.

Police say the juveniles assaulted two guards at the Crater Juvenile Detention Center during a riot in February. They then escaped. They were captured the next day.
