Construction of the Ragged Mountain Dam is on schedule and on budget, according to director of the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA).
All of the underground work, such as prepping the foundation, is done, and the earth moving activity to build up the dam is now underway.
About a third of the height of the dam has been built.
Officials say this dam will provide extra security when it comes to water resources for the area.
"We are blessed this year that we've had plenty of rain, actually a little more than average this year. But we can't count on that every year and we know that mother nature has up and downs and we need to be prepared and this will provide that security," says RWSA Director Tom Frederick.
The dam will be about 130 feet tall when it is completed.
The project is expected to be done by March of 2014.
