A Waynesboro man was killed and a Stuarts Draft man injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday night in Augusta County.

Virginia State Police Trooper C.E. Zenzen responded to the crash that occurred shortly after 8pm on Route 340 where it intersects with a private drive.

A 2004 Pontiac Grand Am was traveling west on the private drive when it failed to stop for the posted stop sign. The Pontiac continued onto Route 340, crossed the northbound lanes and struck a 2003 Mercury Sable in the driver’s side.

The Mercury Sable was stopped in the center turn lane waiting to make a left turn onto the private drive.

Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital. The Pontiac's driver, 28-year-old Kevin M. Muscarella of Stuarts Draft, suffered non life-threatening injuries. The Mercury's driver, 33-year-old Christopher S. Rubin of Waynesboro, died later Monday night at the hospital.

Both men had been wearing their seat belt. Charges are pending, but the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
