A woman in Charlottesville has started an online petition asking Governor Bob McDonnell and the Virginia General Assembly to "vote against the confirmation of Helen Dragas" as Rector of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors.
The petition was launched on the web site change.org on Wednesday. As of 9 p.m. Thursday, it had 1,122 supporters.
The petition's author, Suzie McCarthy, says Dragas does not deserve to be confirmed because of her role in trying to force out UVa President Teresa Sullivan. McCarthy writes: "The continued presence of Helen Dragas within the UVA Board of Visitors represents a stumbling block to all attempts to reestablish trust."
The General Assembly will vote on whether to confirm Dragas during its session starting in January.
