Some local organizations are doing their part to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey.

Klockner Pentaplast continued its effort Saturday to collect goods for the students and staff of a school in Brooklyn. The company collected foot outside of Charlottesville's Kmart Saturday.

Calvary Chapel Charlottesville also began a collection effort Saturday. The community helped fill a truck at the Giant supermarket on Pantops.

On Monday, volunteers from the chapel will take two truckloads of food and other supplies to some of the people hit hardest by Sandy.

"The people there who are organizing these efforts are going to distribute us into the neighborhoods and communities," said Chad Myhre, pastor of Calvary Chapel Charlottesville. "Basically, we're going to open up the back, set up some tables and pass things out. So everything that goes into this truck, when it comes out, it's going right into somebody's hand."

The chapel will collect donations on Sunday at the Kroger locations at Rio Hill and Emmet Street.

Klockner Pentaplast will also accept donations at Kmart Sunday.
