PVCC Holding Summer Classes for Younger Students

June 17, 2013

School may be out for the summer, but that's not stopping some area students from going to class.

The annual College 4 Kids program is underway at Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC).

3rd through 9th grade students are learning hands-on math and science skills through special projects.

Week long classes are offered in computer programming, robotics, engineering, t.v. field production and more.

"I like it just because it helps me prepare for the school year and it's good to put on college applications," said Scott Silvey, a student participating in College 4 Kids.

"A lot of kids we find come in don't want to take a break. They're glued to the robot or the computer. So, it's really stuff that they want to be doing, but it's also learning great skills that they will use in the future," said Erin Hughey-Commers, College 4 Kids.

College 4 Kids runs for seven weeks.
