Pedestrian Hit on Pantops, Leaves Scene with Injury

February 9, 2013

Albemarle County Police are investigating a bizarre accident involving a pedestrian who was hit on a busy road but then left the scene.

The accident happened Friday night on Pantops near the intersection of Richmond Road and Towne and Country Lane.

Police say a driver traveling east swerved to avoid hitting two pedestrians crossing the road. The car hit one of the pedestrians, knocking her to the ground. Police say several people stopped to help, but the two pedestrians walked to a nearby parking lot and drove away.

Based on car descriptions from witnesses, police were able to trace the pedestrians back to a home in Albemarle County. Police say the woman who was hit had an arm injury, and she was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The accident remains under investigation.

Police are still determining whether alcohol was a factor with the pedestrians who crossed the road at the time of the accident but say the it was not a factor for the driver involved.
