Albemarle County Police say they are searching for one of two cars involved in a Friday night hit-and-run accident that left a 71-year-old Crozet man dead.
Police say Carroll Donald Herring was struck while crossing the road on Rockfish Gap Turnpike near Brownsville Road shortly before 8 p.m. Friday by two cars. Police stopped one of the cars involved a short time later and escorted the driver back to the scene. Charges are pending against that driver.
Police are actively looking for a second car involved in the crash that apparently also left the scene. The county's Crash Reconstruction Team describes it as a white Saab with moderate front-end damage.
Friday night's accident was the third fatal crash in Albemarle County in 2013. The second happened just hours before on Irish Road, and the first earlier in the week on Scottsville Road.
Anyone with information that can help police is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
