April 8, 2014

Phone and internet service should be fully restored in southern Albemarle County after a crash on Route 29 knocked out a utility box on Monday.

A truck carrying medical waste ran off the right side of Route 29, near the Red Hill intersection, taking out a fiber optics box belonging to CenturyLink.

The incident wiped out internet, cell and landline service to thousands of people in the area.

The driver of the truck was not hurt, but police have charged him with reckless driving.
