PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) - Petersburg police say they are investigating the deaths of four people after a house fire.

Police spokeswoman Esther Hyatt told media outlets that the fire was reported about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Four bodies were found.

Hyatt said authorities are handling the case like a homicide investigation because of the severity of the fire and the number of victims. She could not immediately say whether there was evidence of foul play.

The identities of the victims and other details were not released, and Hyatt did not immediately return a telephone message left by The Associated Press.
