An early morning police chase involving several children ends in Albemarle County with the arrest of two men.

Police say the chase started in Waynesboro and ended on the 4900 block of Plank Road in Albemarle County.

Two men were in a black Ford Expedition, along with five children ranging in age from 1 to 10-years-old.

Police arrested 31 year old Shannon Burton of Waynesboro, and 29 year old Jonathon Woodard of Maryland.

Police say the car had been on the run, travelling at high speeds as it went from Waynesboro, over Afton Mountain, and ending on Plank Road.

According to officers, it is possible that the two men are wanted on outstanding warrants from Waynesboro and out of state.

Officers were ready to deploy tire deflation devices, "stingers", but didn't have to as the diver stopped on his own.

"Anytime you have a pursuit it's inherently dangerous and risky activity and it requires a lot of close coordination with law enforcement agencies and that was the case here," said Albemarle County Police Lt. Peter Mainzer.

Police say the children are okay, and their mother has since picked them up.

State Police, Waynesboro and Albemarle County Police worked together during the chase.
