Two accidents involving multiple vehicles closed down a busy Albemarle County road Thursday morning, and police believe the accidents are connected.
The first crash happened just before 9:00 a.m. and involved two vehicles at the intersection of Ivy Road and Broomley Road. The second crash happened minutes later, and six vehicles were involved.
Albemarle County Police are investigating exactly what happened, but believe rubbernecking may have caused of the second accident.
"When you pass an accident, keep looking straight ahead, stay off your cell phones, pay attention to your driving and what's in front of you because you'll cause another accident if you don't," said Corporal Ken Richardson.
Richardson says if a driver is caught taking photos or video while driving a car, they can be charged with reckless driving.
A driver on the scene said the second accident was a chain reaction after the cars tried to stop short. No one was injured in either accident, although one driver was trapped in a car pinned under another vehicle.
Charges are pending for second accident. A driver in the first accident has been charged with "following to close."
