The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating two armed robberies which occurred late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
Police responded to an armed robbery call a little after 11:00 p.m. in the 200-block of Colonnade Drive.
The victim says two men with guns entered his home, and stole electronic items and cash. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle.
Colonnade Drive resident Abdullah Abdullah says he saw police running to an apartment in the 200-block of his street Wednesday night.
"This is maybe the third or forth time it's happened in that area," said Abdullah. "But how it's happening, why it's happening, I don't know. And it's always in that area and it's really dark."
Abdullah says, overall, he feels safe living on the street, a feeling he shares with neighbor Jim Newman.
"It's really a great place to live, so I'm really kind of stunned by it," said Newman. "Unfortunately, I think it says a lot about the desperate times that we're in."
Later, at approximately 12:19 a.m. Thursday morning, police were called out to the 200-block of Lakeview Drive for another reported armed robbery.
Three men reportedly entered the home and robbed the victim at gunpoint, again taking electronics and cash. The victim is unsure if they left in a vehicle or on foot.
"I'm really surprised because I never thought that would happen here because it's just a quiet neighborhood," said Albemarle County resident Sally Swope.
Carol Tatum, who lives on Lakeview Drive, says she feels safe in her quiet neighborhood.
"There's a security guard that comes up a couple times a night and looks at all the neighborhood, and if your garage is open or something, they call you," said Tatum. "They actually will come and watch you close it and get back into your house safely."
The victims in the reported robberies say they don't know the suspects. Neither victim was injured during the incident.
Detectives with the Albemarle County Police Department are looking into if the robberies are connected.
The investigations are on-going. Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
