Police were on the lookout for drunk drivers on New Year's Eve.
According to police records neither Charlottesville nor Albemarle County Police made any arrests for drunk driving from noon New Year's Eve through noon on New Year's Day. Neither department held a sobriety checkpoint that night - instead sent more officers out onto the roads.
State police say 20 people died in 19 traffic crashes over the Christmas and New Year holidays in Virginia.
Preliminary reports show ten people died over the Christmas holiday, while ten died over New Year's. Three crashes were alcohol-related. Six victims were not wearing seat belts.
One person died in a holiday crash in Albemarle County.
