Around 10 o'clock Friday morning neighbors say they saw at least 20 officers barge into a home on the 800 block of Ridge Street.
They saw a SWAT team fully armed, an armored vehicle and police cars in front of a house.
Several neighbors tell CBS19 they heard a loud noise and then saw officers break down the front door.
At the time they had no idea why a SWAT team would be in front of a home in a neighborhood they describe as "quiet" and "family friendly".
Charlottesville Police say they raided the home Friday morning to arrest 43-year-old Uriah Bashun Lofton, who lives on the second floor of the home.
Investigators say Lofton was arrested in connection to an attack involving a machete near his home July 7th.
Neighbors tell CBS19 at the time of the incident Lofton claimed he was not involved.
Neighbors say Lofton goes by the name of "House" and is known in the community as a handyman and carpenter.
"This is a man trying to build a career start a new life. He works on houses," says neighbor Jessica Green.
Neighbors were in shock, as they would not have expected the man who lives in the home to be arrested for anything.
"It doesn't add up because this is a good man of the community he would come and he works on people's houses throughout the community. He has reasonable prices. What I've seen is conflicting with what they are trying to pinpoint," says Green.
The victim of the stabbing was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.
The investigation into what happened July 7th is still on-going.
Lofton is being held at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Jail.
