Police are investigating a bank robbery at the United Bank on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville.

Police say the suspect is a white male in his 20's, wearing a white t-shirt and aviator-style sunglasses.

Police will not release if the man was armed or not but investigators are collecting forensic evidence and will be looking at surveillance camera video from the scene.

Employees at The Commonwealth Sky Bar and Restaurant say they saw the man running down 5th Street SE with his shirt pulled up over his face but they didn't think anything of it because it was pouring rain at the time.

One downtown resident said he saw lots of police officers running from the police station, with guns drawn, to the bank around 4:45 p.m. when it happened.

Witnesses say the suspect was running towards Water Street. There are no reports of injuries from the scene.
