A Culpeper police officer is on administrative leave following the fatal shooting of a Culpeper woman.

Police received a call around 10 a.m. Thursday regarding a suspicious woman sitting in a Jeep Wrangler that was stopped in a church parking lot in the 300 block of North East Street.

Virginia State Police say a Town of Culpeper Police Officer responded and began talking with the woman. While attempting to retrieve her identification, the news release states, the woman suddenly closed her driver’s side window trapping the officer’s arm and started driving away dragging the officer alongside.

The officer repeatedly commanded the woman stop the moving vehicle. She refused and shots were fired. The Jeep then wrecked in the 200 block of North East Street.

Police have identified Patricia Cook of Culpeper as the woman shot. The 54-year-old died at the scene. Her remains have been taken to the office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas for an autopsy.

The Culpeper Town Police and Culpeper County Sheriff's Office is helping the Virgina State Police with the investigation.

Brandishing a firearm is not the only means of having deadly force used, if he was caught in the window as has been reported he had the right to employ those means. And before I hear another there was a witness, a person charged and convicted of possession of heroin in Culpeper County does not in my opinion make a credible unbiased witness.

This is just outrageous! There is no way that woman deserved to be killed. The sad thing is nothing will be done about it.
