The popular "Tripes" sculpture at the University of Virginia was removed from grounds Tuesday morning.
Crews used a crane to lift the heavy piece of artwork that has been part of the landscape in front of Peabody Hall since last year. UVa Vice Provost of the Arts, Elizabeth Turner, says the 12-foot sculpture is being moved to Manassas to undergo much needed repairs.
"Great art demands care and feeding. This being the first piece in the public sculpture initiative, we want to make sure we do the right thing," said Turner.
The piece was designed to look like a tree changing shape and form as you walk around its frame. Officials say it should be back on grounds in six to eight weeks.
