The Jefferson Cup Road Race originally scheduled for Sunday, March 27 has been canceled and rescheduled for Sunday, May 8 (Mother's Day).
Organizer Ruth Stornetta says the forecast for accumulating snow led to the decision.
The rescheduled May 8 race remains part of the six races from across the country that have been selected as Nature Valley Pro Ride qualifying events.
The race started out over 20 years ago as a small spring training race, 100 participants total with an A and a B race. The race has grown into its current status as the first “must do” race of the season with over 600 participants in nine fields coming from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.
The course rolls through old Virginia estates and vineyards close to Thomas Jefferson’s famous home, Monticello. It is held eight miles south of Charlottesville along the scenic roads of Albemarle County in the area of the town of Carter's Bridge.
