Two weeks after the United States Postal Service announced mail sorting operations at the Free Union Post Office were moving to Earlysville, upset residents will have an opportunity to voice their concerns.

Free Union residents have been invited to a public meeting with UPSP representatives July 27. Many told CBS19 earlier this month that they're concerned the move will cost them more money and slow down delivery time. Now, they'll have a chance to share those concerns with decision-makers.

Residents were informed on July 5 that two mail carriers, who sort the mail and deliver it out of the Free union Post Office, were moving to the Earlysville Post Office to save money. They're worried that the move will eventually lead to officials eliminating the Free Union Post Office altogether.

However, USPS officials are adamant that the post office and all PO boxes are staying put.

The public hearing will take place on July 27 at 7pm at the Free Union Baptist Church.

This is a darned if you do, darned if you don't situation. If you appear at the public hearing, you have wasted your time. The post office has already decided what they will do. If you don't appear at the public hearing, the post office will use this as an excuse to justify their doing what they wanted to do in the first place..... as in lack of interest, nobody came to the hearing, they must not have cared. This same scenario played out when they moved this region's sorting and distribution 25 miles on the other side of Richmond, Virginia.
