The Giant and Martin's supermarket chains have announced a recall for a possible listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The supermarkets have removed the Gold Coast Fresh Crab Spread from its shelves following a recall by Gold Coast Salads.
The product is:
Gold Coast Fresh Crab Spread, 8 oz., UPC 83355500325, expiration date of 1/31/2013
The supermarkets have received no reports of illnesses. A press release says customers who have purchased the spread should throw away any unused portions and bring a receipt to any Giant or Martin's location for a full refund.
Listeria is a potentially fatal disease that can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
For more information, customers can call Gold Coast customer service at 1-239-513-0430 or Giant/Martin's customer service at 1-888-814-4268.
