Recognizing Outstanding Tourism Efforts in Central Va.

May 9, 2014

The Charlottesville-Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau (CAVCB) handed out awards last night, all to recognize outstanding efforts in tourism.

The Look 3 Festival of the Photograph took home this year's tourism achievement award at the Jefferson School City Center.

Other awards handed out on Thursday included best chef, best server and best customer service.

The annual ceremony is a chance to recognize all the key players in Central Virginia's growing tourism industry.

“It's a huge economic engine,” said Executive Director Kurt Burkhart. “Last year, $502 million of direct economic impact -- that's visitor spending into our community."

A new photo contest to promote tourism drew nearly one thousand entries. CBS19’s Brantley Ussery was a runner-up in that competition.
