Some county elementary students will be moving to a new school this fall. The Albemarle County School Board approved redistricting at Thursday night's meeting.

As a result, 94 students who got used to walking into Agnor-Hurt Elementary every single day, will be walking into one of three other elementary schools come August.

"We're gonna miss the children we're gonna miss them. We love them but they had to make these hard decisions," Agnor-Hurt Assistant Principal, Doug Granger said.

Granger says reaction from parents so far hasn't been extreme thanks to the open process and input from parents and students along the way.

"The parents I've spoken to seem prepared, I believe, as I said that it was a very open process, very honest process our school has been over capacity and that needed to be changed," he said.

Jaquelin Salazar has four children and is glad that they'll all experience the same school.

"I'm happy they're gonna stay here because I have another girl going into 4th grade, my son going into first grade and my daughter in kindergarden. I'm happy I love this school, I like it here I'm happy here," Salazar, an Albemarle County resident says.

Meriwhether Lewis Elementary was also under review by the school board but they voted to not take action there.

As for Agnor-Hurt, it's time to move forward.

"The redistricting was something that the committee really thought carefully about and step one was made last night now my steps and our steps as a school begin with the transition," Granger said.

Depending on where they live, the students transferring will start in August visiting and getting to know the classrooms at their new respective schools: Greer Elementary School, Broadus Wood Elementary School, Woodbrook Elementary School.
